May is celebrated as Global Employee Health and Fitness Month, and CHA HPMC recognizes the importance of employee well-being as it drives overall business performance. Rycelonia Tan, Registered Nurse (RN), at CHA HPMC, shares how the company helps her maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What does fitness mean to you?
Fitness keeps me going. I wake up in the morning feeling good, come to work with a lot of energy to take care of my patients and, most of all, come back home and spend time with my kids—all this without feeling exhausted. Even with so many things to do on a daily basis, staying active keeps me energized throughout the day.

How does CHA HPMC help you stay healthy?
CHA HPMC keeps me healthy in many ways. Firstly, my role as an RN keeps me on my feet as I am constantly moving while interacting with patients. I clock about 7-10 miles every day at work just by walking across the hospital to meet my patients and conduct meetings. We have an amazing cafeteria which offers healthy meal options tailored to different tastes. For my lunch at work, I usually hit the salad bar to prepare a delicious and healthy meal for myself.

Can you share some ways you incorporate quick exercises between work?
I take the stairs when I go around the hospital to meet patients or attend meetings. When I’m with patients, I perform some activities and exercises with them, which encourages them.
