Peter T. Santiago, a Guam resident, flew 17 hours to Los Angeles in April to receive treatment for multi-vessel coronary artery disease. His first symptoms began in January.

“My breaths started getting short. And I felt chest pain radiating to my jaw. It’s like somebody’s just squeezing me, keeping me from breathing.”

After being referred to a cardiologist, he learned he was on the verge of a heart attack. Though the entire process was overwhelming and frightening, he decided to undergo coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery at CHA HPMC.

During his 8-day stay at CHA HPMC, Peter recalls that everyone was caring, and nurses were excellent and attentive, constantly checking on him. Now, as he prepares to return home, he says he would recommend CHA HPMC to other patients in Guam.

“The team at CHA HPMC extended my life. I’m beyond grateful to the whole team.”
