My partner recently had a heart attack with subsequent health complications, which brought us to the Acute Rehab Unit at CHA HPMC. Having never faced a serious health emergency or extensive hospital stay before, we didn’t know what to expect. However, from the minute we arrived in this unit, I knew that my husband was in good hands.

The entire nursing team oozed empathy and was attentive and nurturing. The doctors at the rehab unit were positive and kind, never failing to answer questions clearly and succinctly. The social services staff was cheerful and helpful. Every single person on the floor, including the housekeepers, was absolutely lovely. The facility exuded a sense of calmness and purpose, and the environment was bright and scrupulously clean.

As a family member, I felt supported and taken care of. Every second of every day, I knew that my partner was receiving the best possible care and that he was going to get better. In fact, it was amazing to watch his health consistently progress and improve. I’ve spent a lot of time in medical facilities like this with other family members and never had anywhere near as positive an experience as the one at CHA HPMC’s rehabilitation unit.

I cannot speak highly enough about the therapy that one receives at this facility. We dealt with many therapists during our stay and every single one of them was amazing: nurturing, patient, knowledgeable, hardworking, and energetic. The Acute Rehab Unit has a spectacular gym possessing every piece of exercise and conditioning equipment you can imagine, and everything is sanitized continually. Our experience at the Acute Rehab Unit was during the COVID-19 pandemic and I always felt safe, as the facility is so clean and all the employees were religious about wearing masks. The unit has a beautiful patio where patients and their families could spend time outdoors and breathe fresh air in a safe environment. And, as an extra bonus, most of the spacious rooms have views of the Hollywood Hills or downtown Los Angeles.

By providing physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as aiding my partner’s recovery and return back to normal daily life, the Acute Rehab team has provided an invaluable service and we will be forever grateful. This group of professionals has turned what could have been a dismal and terrifying experience into one filled with a sense of rebirth and joy. The care that we received at the rehab unit at CHA HPMC will allow us to go back home, sit on our porch, and enjoy our daily pastimes such as reading the newspaper and watching the hummingbirds. Thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts!
