When Milovan Uljarevic fell and broke his neck, his life changed in an instant. Following cervical spine surgery, he began his recovery journey at CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center (CHA HPMC), where he has been working hard to regain his independence.

“He’s been in recovery since late May. Despite lots of obstacles, he’s persevering. He is already able to walk 150 steps, use his iPad, and feed himself with a spoon,” shared his daughter.

While he has made tremendous progress, the journey is ongoing. “There is still a lot to daily life he has to re-learn. Before the accident he was 100% independent, so we’re hoping in the next few months we will start to see him regain more and more of that independence.”

Much of this progress, the family says, comes from the dedication of the hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) team. “The ARU team did an amazing job giving him the opportunity to heal. I want to give thanks to Dr. Miner, Victor, Sunisa, Melba, and every single nurse and CNA really. I am especially thankful to the case managers — without them he wouldn’t have made the amount of progress he has. They’ve done lifesaving work for him.”
