At 36 years old, Crystal Preciado has been through more than the average person. Following a liver transplant, Crystal contracted COVID and spent three months in a coma, “I flat lined about five times, and when I finally woke up I had to learn to walk and talk again.” Crystal said.

Prior to arriving at CHA HPMC, Crystal was involved in an unfortunate car crash that resulted in one of her legs being amputated. After a harrowing experience in an after-care facility, Crystal’s provider stopped accepting her insurance and transferred her care team to one here at CHA HPMC.

“Because of my prior experiences, I have a lot of anxiety surrounding doctors, nurses, and hospitals in general, but as soon as I got in [to CHA HPMC] the nurses made me feel really safe.” Crystal said.

Crystal expressed that her care team here at CHA HPMC made her feel loved, and like there was true human connection and compassion behind the care provided to her.

After spending one week in our care and working with our nursing and physical therapy team, Crystal is back home and beginning her new life.

When asked to summarize her time here at CHA HPMC, Crystal responded, “I’ve never felt safe in a hospital setting, so to say I’m willing to be seen/treated at CHA HPMC is a big thing for me. I haven’t had an experience like that in a long time.”
