Peter and Young Kim Experience 5-Star Delivery Experience at CHA HPMC

Peter and Young Mi Kim were not ready for their baby to arrive a month early. Pregnancy complications forced Young to go into labor sooner than her due date, and she was admitted to CHA HPMC. Young was anxious about her first delivery experience in the U.S., and didn’t know what to expect. “It is important to have a care team that understands what you are going through and knows how to make you feel comfortable. The doctor and nurses made the whole experience comfortable and answered all my questions,” she says, adding that it turned out to be her best delivery yet.

When Peter and Young came to CHA HPMC, they did not expect a five-star experience. “We got our own private room with two beds, flat-screen TV, and delicious food. To top it all, our room had unparalleled views of the ‘Hollywood’ sign,” says a delighted Peter, adding that it was nothing short of a five-star stay. Availability of Korean food at the hospital, Peter says, added a level of comfort. “It felt like home.”

CHA HPMC’s Mother Baby postpartum unit offers family-centered private rooms for the moms to recover and develop a special bond with the baby. To support new moms in breastfeeding, lactation consultants are offered to educate and help mothers with proper latching and positioning of the baby. In recognition of the breastfeeding efforts, CHA HPMC received the prestigious Baby-Friendly designation from Baby-Friendly USA, part of a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

After her C-section, Young recovered under the care of our nursing team. “My wife only speaks Korean and it was helpful to be cared for by nurses from our own culture,” says Peter.

During his stay at our hospital, Peter also spent time watching the construction activities at CHA HPMC building, to improve quality of care and services. “It is wonderful to see the hospital expanding its services and bringing aboard more specialized doctors and staff to care for the community,” he says. As one of the first hospitals in the area to provide women’s services, we are proud to expand our maternity unit to be one of the largest in L.A with more private rooms and space for care.
