Phone: (323) 913-4544 Location: Patient Tower, Second Floor Infection control ensures that patients, visitors and staff experience an environment safe from infection. Infection Control monitors trends and outbreaks in the community and within the hospital so hospital staff can take timely action in the prevention of illness. To help educate staff members about adequate hand-washing, Infection Control uses a box with a black light and fluorescent lotion. Staff members can cover their hands with the lotion, wash hands and then put them in the box. This allows staff to evaluate the effectiveness of their hand washing. Patients should ensure that family members and visitors do not have any signs and symptoms of illness before they enter the hospital. Visitors should only visit a hospital patient if they are healthy. Whenever possible it is safer for small children to be tended by other family members at home rather than come to visit a patient. Germs do not know boundaries. The most important thing patients, caregivers and family members can do to prevent infection is to wash their hands. If visitors or patients have a question of concern regarding infection control they are more than welcome to contact the Infection Control department to answer any questions. Infection Control wants each person's stay to be a healthy one.
