Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's Gastrointestinal Lab department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding. Richard Dwyer, MD, has treated the most gastrointestinal bleeding disorders in Southern California using a technique called laser coagulation. In addition to Dr. Dwyer, there are several gastroenterologists at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center that are specially trained to treat gastrointestinal bleeding.

The medical center is currently establishing an advanced gastrointestinal diagnostic and therapeutic center for the removal of common bile duct stones (including techniques such as laser destruction) and diagnostic visualization of bile ducts when looking for cancer. While upper endoscopy and some colonoscopy procedures may be considered difficult at other medical centers, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's expertly trained staff is well equipped to handle difficult cases.
