Patient Rooms
Patient room assignments are based on diagnosis and bed availability at the time of admission. Private and semi-private rooms are available.

Phone Use
Family members and friends may call patients between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. by calling (213) 413-3000. When the automated attendant asks for the four-digit extension number; it should be entered as follows:

Bed A = 6 + room number                            Bed B = 7 + room number

If the room number is a 4-digit number; the family member or friend should press "6" or "7" depending on the position of the patient's bed, and then enter the last 3 digits of the room number. For example, if the patient is in Bed A of room 1009, the caller should enter "6009".

To make a local call from a hospital room, the caller should press *9 followed by the phone number they want to call. To make a long-distance call, press *9 followeb y "0" and wait for operator assistance.

Cell phones can be used within the hospital except for the following areas:

  • Newborn Intenstive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Intensive Care Units (ICU)
  • Operating Room
  • Recovery Room

Calling a Nurse
To call a nurse, the patient should press the "Call" button located on the side of the bed. When the patient presses the button, the nurses at the nurse's station will be alerted and respond in a prompt manner. The attending nurse carries a mobile phone for quick response to patient calls.

Leaving Patient Rooms
Patients should stay in their room until the attending physician finishes his/her rounds and all tests and treatments have been completed. If a patient needs to leave his/her room under unavoidable circumstances, they must first notify the attending nurse and confirm that they have physician's approval to do so.

During the Night
It is important that patients do not leave their room after bedtime. This is for the patient's own safety since unfamiliar surroundings and sleep-inducing medication may put patients at risk if they leave their bed at night. If a patient experiences an urgent need for assistance during the night, they should press the "Call" button.
